Sri Arkeshwaraswamy temple is a Shiva temple which is situated on the banks of river Cauvery. The temple is very easy to find once you reach Krishna Raja Nagar (K R Nagar) since it is just 3 Kms away. You can reach the destination easily by train and by road.
You can see a Chariot in front of the main entrance and it is assumed that the chariot of Lord Shiva and it is having a height of about 10 feet. When we reached their the temple was closed but saw many people seated outside the temple and finishing their lunch.
Lot of Shiva Lingams are placed outside the temple along the river banks. Many were busy fishing using pole and string since the Cauvery river is enriched with Katala (a variety of river fish rich in flesh) fish. Even though it is not rainy season, it was not advisable to step into the river due to strong undercurrents.
One or two stone temples were amid the river but couldn’t see the idols since the construction was immersed in the water. We will definitely a visit again in summer to witness the Idol inside.
I heard from the locals that the unique feature of the temple is that on the day of Maha Shivarathri, sunlight directly falls on to the Shiv Lingam inside the Sanctum Sanctorum of the temple and it happens only for a few minutes.
Near the temple, you can see one Masjid and two Darhas. The vicinity of the temple is so beautiful since it is so green due to paddy fields and sugarcane.
To reach the temple from Mysore, take Mysore-Hassan road and take a turn at K R Nagar.
