Aakash the low cost tablet from an Indian company called Datawind has got good response. The cost of this tablet is around Indian Rupees 3000. The company is always working with a telecom company to provide low cost data connection (about Rs 99 per month), which could be very useful for students / youngsters. They are also hoping to make connectivity free in near future so that everybody can get access to online resources.
Aakash is a tablet running on Android operating system has has almost everything a tablet would need. We should understand that this device cannot be compared with tablets like iPad / Samsung Galaxy. The prices are very much different and so could be the features.
The manufacturer has already supplied 10K units to students from different institutes at the price of Rs 2,250 which is very less compared to the commercial ones. Aakash is the student’s version and there is another version called UbiSlate 7 (The upgraded version of Aakash).

Aakash is a ultra cheap version for the students in India. The processor is Arm11 – 366Mhz, OS is Android 2.2, battery 2100 mAh, works on Wifi only. The UbiSlate 7 has a better processor Cortex A8 – 700 Mhz, better battery - 3200 mAh, Android 2.3 and can use Wifi as well and 3G (Phone sim). The prices also differs, Aakash costs – Rs 2500, while UbiSlate 7 costs Rs3000.
